Equal-length splitting uses FFmpeg's segment muxer, which divides the audio stream into chunks of a specified duration without re-encoding, keeping the operation fast and lossless for compatible containers. For silence-based splitting, the tool uses FFmpeg's silencedetect filter to scan the waveform for regions where amplitude falls below a configurable threshold for a minimum duration, then inserts split points at the midpoint of each detected silence.

All processing happens in a WebAssembly FFmpeg worker in your browser. The output files are collected in memory and offered as individual downloads. Silence threshold and minimum silence duration are both tunable, so the tool handles everything from clean studio recordings to noisy field recordings.
